He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pat, his five children, Shawna Delzeith Tom of Ohio, Matthew Shannon of Colorado, Bridget Hurley PT, Paul Beth Hunt, Michael of Phoenix and grandchildren: Jonathan and Danielle Delzeith, Christopher Rush, Patrick, Moira and Rory Hurley. ![]() His humor and wit will be greatly missed. ![]() Dad had a natural gift for making each person that spoke to him feel like they were part of his “inner sanctum”. He loved watching his grandchildren splash around in the pool, barbequing his famous hamburgers, and fixing dinners for his working wife. Foreign travel was his passion and he always encouraged his children to seek an education through cultural experiences and academics. Dad traveled the world, often times in places Americans were not always welcomed. ![]() While stationed in Washington, DC, he met his wife, Mary Patricia Scott of Phoenix. After leaving the Army in l961, he continued to selflessly serve 27 years with the Central Intelligence Agency, retiring to Phoenix in l989. He graduated from Baylor University and went on to serve in the 82nd Airborne. Phil was born in Kerrville, Texas on August 18, 1930, to Phillip and Ethel Horton Rush and raised in Stamford, Texas. Passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2009.
